Meditation is a practice that focuses on mindfulness, or a particular sound, object, thought or activity such as your breathing. Meditation trains awareness and focus and helps you to achieve a mentally and emotionally calm state of mind. Not only this, but it can help divert your attention away from negative thoughts or emotions and even pain. It's the most powerful way to manifest those dreams of yours!
One mistake people often make when they are new to meditation is putting themselves under pressure and worrying if they are doing it right or being put off by the struggle to focus on the meditation instantly. There is no right or wrong way — it is a practice because it takes lots of practice!
Here are some helpful tips when it comes to meditation...
Don't put yourself under pressure
Find your favourite way of meditation and explore different types until you feel comfortable. Meditation can be done using relaxing music, guided meditation, watching candle flames, listening to certain sounds such as a bell for as little as 2 minutes and much more, you can sit down or lie down... It's up to you!
It's totally normal for your mind to wander. Just divert your attention back to the meditation when you remember your supposed to be meditating.
On your first go, keep it short!
Have a designated space. Learn to tie it in with an existing every day habit — such as brushing your teeth — to make it part of your daily routine.
Don't pressure yourself. Go into your meditation practice without any expectations.
Breathe! Take at least 3-4 deep breaths all the way in and slowly all the way out at the beginning of your meditation.
